Breakdown Cover - Is there a Question Mark around Comparison Sites?
There are plenty of websites promoting breakdown cover and many of those websites are comparison sites. In my opinion, most of them are quite good but a fair number can be very confusing.
Without doubt these sites will list the majority of well known breakdown service companies, any one of which you can select and find details of the car breakdown cover levels provided and the costs involved.
Of course, as you would expect, you will receive varying levels of quality in the service depending on which company and which cover you decide to choose.
However, now we come to the questionable parts:
You will find sites that provide customer testimonials for each of the different companies, but does this give you any real idea as to which is the best company to choose or does it just add to the confusion?
You will also find comparison sites which operate on a star rating system for the different companies, but exactly how do they judge these star ratings?
Are they experts in the car breakdown field? Some comparison sites even cover things like broadband, mortgages, insurance, etc. It s unlikely that they ll be experts in one specific field.
Have they conducted a comprehensive customer survey? Or is it based on their personal experience? Who knows? In reality, it may be the flavour of the month , based on which company is paying more commission.
Here is another important question do you ever wonder why most sites will not give a clear indication as to which they consider the best service?
Well, they probably don t need to - it doesn t matter to them which company you choose because they get paid commission anyway. So, it s not in their interests to promote one company more favourably than another.
So, do the proprietors behind these sites really have the customer s interests at heart? Are they trying to help you find the best possible service? The blunt answer is, of course, no. They have you in a catch all situation and do very well out of it thank you very much.
So, when you need car breakdown cover, don t assume that you will get the best deal by checking a comparison site they don t really have your best interests at heart!
It would be far more beneficial to talk to someone direct, an expert in the business who is regulated by the Financial Services Authority. They will ask the right questions to help find the most suitable breakdown cover for you and answer any questions you may have.
